    Hello all,
I've purchased a new E14p with Win 8 64 bit. It has a 1TB hard drive which I want to partition. I tried some of the googled answers I came up with and being not very good at doing this, I fouled it up each time.

Here is my situation, I've got a single C drive(and all the associated Vaio recovery drives et al). C drive is about 892GB in size and I tried using Partition Wizard to resize this into 3 partitions - 150GB system and a couple of other drives 150GB and the remain 592GB in size. Partition Wizard wanted to restart and complete the action each time as it found C: was being used by something. Each attempt terminated with Partition Wizard trying to launch but ending up not launching and a Windows error message cropping up followed by Windows being unable to boot and the laptop using Autorepair to set itself right. I've tried this twice and am afraid to try it again.

I know it seems a little silly given that most people know how to do this but could someone please guide me through the partitioning process?

Thanks in advance for your patience in having read the above :) and providing a solution!

Instead of using a Windows tool, try one of those that let you burn a CD with the tool on it and boot into it and partition the way you want it without Windows interfering with the process.

Thanks for your suggestion Szadzik, since I am a complete noob to this, could you please suggest an easy to use tool? Also how do I get a bootable version?

GParted foune here should be easy enough.

To make it bootable, burn th ISO onto a CD or use a tool to make a bootable USB drive

Thanks again. So would the following be the correct way to go about doing this -
    1) Download and burn GParted Live image onto USB/CD
    2) Make the laptop boot from said disk
    3) On GParted(if and when it opens) Move/Resize C into the partitions I require.

Only asking as it seems too simple to be true! I was really left wondering if I've totally bricked my laptop(goes to show the level of noobness) each time Partition Wizard failed and Auto repair took over.

Partition Wiard failed on mine twice too and then just worked. Did not have to use departed, but...

It is as easy as you think, yes.

    I found this link -
Using GParted to Resize Your Windows 7 or Vista Partition - How-To Geek

and it actually says "The problem is that if you resize your boot/system partition, you will be completely unable to boot without repairing windows."

If I am faced with such a situation would Autorepair be able to fix windows back into working?

    Thanks again.

If automatic windows Startup REpair does not work, you can always recreate bootmgr manually.

Would I be able to do this without having an OS install disc? The Vaio came with no installation discs, am thinking the OS is loaded onto one of the recovery partitions. Thanks again for your help!

The recovery partition has Windows PE which will allow you run the repair, but just in case creae a bootable uSB stick with that so you do not get stuck.
