    Hello,

This is my first post here. I am not a computer guru and I need some help.
I have a Vaio that is about 3-4 months old. Recently I noticed that the fan runs lounder than normal every now and then, so I took it to the store to get looked at.
I picked it up today and the sound is still there. Is this sound normal? Is it my imagination that I didnt notice it before?
Its not extremely loud, but its a humming sound thats loud enough to notice and annoy me.

Should I take it back to get looked at?

If you look for "Vaio control center" you'll find that in "power management" you can choose between three modes called "silence" "balanced" and "performance", which will give more or less priority to sound from the fan or heat management.
If you're doing something that need heavy activity from CPU or GPU, then "performance" produce more sound from the fan BUT is far better because allow to cool down your laptop faster...
While you computer is idle, "performance" will lead to more sound than "balanced" or "silence", which might be what you find annoying.

Have you changed anything in your use of this laptop since you noticed this fan sound ?

Thanks for this information. I have not changed anything in my use.
For some reason I dont have the silence option. I only have the Balanced and the performance options.

Any changes with performance or balanced ?
Maybe you could compare your fan sound with another vaio EB.

If they didn't find anything then I'm not sure there's anything to find.

I just switched to balanced and I am not noticing any difference. The sound is very annoying and distructing especially when the room is quiet. I can't imagine living with this for the next however many months.
I will check the other laptops in the store and see if they have the same problem.
