There's really nothing wrong with any of those. Certainly you want the VAIO native software for Sony updates, laptop settings, to make backup discs etc. I would have said Norton trialware and any other time-limited stuff should be gone, but none of that is listed. There is no crapware in that list. Roxio (much as I hate that) is the burning software required to use the DVDrom... SmartWi is the WAN utility to allow multiple profiles. You can get rid of that and use Window's networking properties for WAN setup tools, but why?

Alps and Arcsoft are the Drivers for the touchpad and webcam, again things that are perfectly useful.

Thank you for all of the replies. If I understand, the list that UserofFZ21Z provided indicates those programs where there is an MS equivalency in native Windows 7, so they could go away...correct? Although the Vaio programs may be perfectly functional, I see no reason for repetition of programs.

Anyone willing to break down this list with a little more detail? I understand that there are many better solutions or some items are just redundant to Windows offering but, for example, if someone doesn't have another CD/DVD burning app to install they probably want to keep Roxio.

It would be really helpful if there was a list of what these items did so customers could decide if they need them or not. I want to get rid of as much s/w as possible leaving only those things required to maintain the full functionality of the hardware.

A few more adds of my own as well

    Intel Matrix Storage Manager
    Media Gallery
    PlayReady PC Runtime amd 64
    PMB (list of items)

Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 LJ
    Setting Utility Series
    SmartWi Connection Utility
    Sony Home Network Library
    System Requirements Lab
    VAIO Care
VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager
VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Network Service Manager
    VAIO Content Metadata Manager Settings
VAIO Content Metadata XML Interface Library
    VAIO Content Monitoring Settings
    VAIO Control Center
    VAIO Data Restore Tool
    VAIO DVD Menu Data
    VAIO Entertainment Platform
    VAIO Event Service
    VAIO Help and Support
    VAIO Media plus
    VAIO Media plus Opening Movie
    VAIO OOBE and Startup Assistant
    VAIO Original Function Settings
    VAIO Personalization Manager
    VAIO Power Management
    VAIO Transfer Support
    VAIO Update 5

    LninO ...
NOW you're getting into the automated resource hogs! Some of those entertainment analyzers jump into play and mess up intensive tasks such as video editing.

Specific details, I don't recall (hope someone here does)

Sony boatware can feel like crapware when it automatically hogs resources without providing disenabling options. If you can find a candid/knowledgable Sony technician, they will help de-bloat your laptop for efficiency issues. That's a rare find but I lucked into one ... once.

Looks cleeeean! Do you think you might miss having VAIO one care?

BTW... I recall it was an ArcSoft component that a smart Sony tech told me was wrecking my chances of video capture via firewire ... I removed it and no problems since.

I apologize if this isn't the right forum to post this but I'm thinking about purchasing the f1190x. I want to know what experiences anyone has had with this (I understand the model is fairly new). I had purchased a Dell Studio 1557 in late Dec. but it had many problems with random freezes where the only way to recover was to do a hard restart. Still no fix from Dell about this.

    1. Any problems of that nature?
    2. Does the laptop feel abnormally "hot" from the i7 processor?
    3. Does the laptop generate more than acceptable amount of noise when in use?
    4. Does the laptop generate vibration that can be felt on the palm rests?
    5. How is the bluray video quality?
    6. I'm assuming it is 1080p HD?

    Thanks.
