Hi guys.
The unthinkable happened and my baby has gained it's first wound. I was listening to some music using the headphone socket, and as my mother got up, her clothes caught on the connector and... crack.
The good news is that all is still working, but it feels delicate, and I want to fix it. At first I went up the wall because I presumed the whole lot would be on a single PCB and possibly require a new motherboard, which in turn might have caused headaches with Windows 7 activation, but doing some quick googling it looks like the headphone/mic and USB sockets are on their own PCB.
Thank God for that. I don't know if they forsee problems like that, but it's an saver anyway.
So I have a couple of questions.
The laptop I own is a VPCF12M0E (that's a zero). I would like to know if someone can confirm that the audio jacks are indeed still on a seperate PCB, and also the part number. I've seen CNX 448 mentioned but regarding other models. It looks identical, but this laptop has optical out, so it must have that (because I use that for my external DAC/headphone amp)
The other thing is that I've never had this open yet, and with it being only 1 month old, I'm cautious of opening it. I'm one of those people who can open things but they never seem to go back together. Dealing with my old HP laptop has put me off opening laptops forever. Trying to get the case completely off was impossible and like a maze.
So are there any guides on opening this laptop? Any wires or surprises I should look out for when lifting the lid? Also is there any particular order in which to unscrew stuff? Also are there any screws under the keyboard that I may need to get to?
Any help no matter how insignificant you may think would be great. I don't want to send my baby off to Sony in case it comes back scratched to bits (that happened with a Nintendo Wii I sent back one).
Many thanks
