Looking to buy a laptop. I'm looking at the F with the i7 740, Nvidia 330M, 1920x1080 screen and the EC with the i5 540, with the ATI 5650 with the 1600x900 screen.

I'm not worried at the differences between the i7 & the i5 as both will be more than adequate for my needs. And while the 5650 is better than the 330m they will both fit my needs.

My concerns are the screens. How does the 1920 screen on the F compared to the 1600 on the EC? How do the speakers on each laptop compare? And does the EC have a back-lit keyboard? I know I can build an F with a back-lit keyboard.

    Thanks.

Ok, I have now verified no back-lit keyboard on the EC but what about the screens or the speakers???

I have not seen an EC screen, but I have seen the 1080 screen on the F. It is very nice.

What will you do with your laptop? Both of these are far too large for me, but I'd be inclined to go with the F because it's smaller. Unless this was for gaming, in which case go for the EC with it's better GPU. But the 1600x900 on the EC won't look as good as the full HD on the F (it'll look good, just not as good).

I can't speak from experience about the speakers/sound. But my guess would be that the F may have an advantage. The F has Dolby Home Theater v3 where as the EC only has Intel High Definition Audio.

I'd be curious to hear some responses to this question as well, as these are the two models I'm considering at the moment.
