Overshadowed by yesterday's (underwhelming) press release is the announcement of the Vaio F2 2D model that starts at $1100 for CTO versions, $460 cheaper than the 3D model.

The computer still seems pretty big and bulky. Weight has grown by .45 pounds to 6.85 pounds compared to the F1's 6.4. It's also .3" wider, .08" taller in the back, and .59" more depth. It just seems like Sony took the 3D chassis and put the 2D screen on it to make it slightly thinner than the 3D model.

A step backwards? The scratch prone case doesn't help either.

I posted a little about this in the F21's thread (3D is F21 now while 2D is F22), it appears that these 2D models will be using matte materials. From an article on Cnet yesterday, they showed some pictures of the new F and S models and the F colors, black, white, and silver, looked very matte. Also, on the F22 CTO page online, the black is indeed listed as Matte Black.

It doesn't bother me too much, I suppose. Now it essentially turns the glossy black into its own "Signature" color. :p
