Hey, all... had my FE for ~4 months now.... working great for the most part.

However, one problem I have noticed is occasionally when on battery power, the screen will automatically dim itself. I know it can get brighter, because when I use the brightness (+) key, it goes to full brightness for a moment, but then back down. I have checked my power settings, everything seems to be ok there.

Another problem is that when watching a movie, the screen will dim after about 5 minutes on battery power. It dims so much that its hard to see the movie. When I move the mouse pointer to awake it, the computer often freezes up for a while. Anyone else have this problem?

Finally, occasionally when I open the computer when I have had it closed (but not turned off) for a while, it can take a full 1-2 minutes just to get to a place where I can do anything. When it does this, the screen is not at full brightness, and the mouse pointer doesnt move. This is incredibly annoying when I want to do something quickly. Any thoughts?

Sorry to put so many questions in one thread, but I figured I might as well spill all the beans at once.

I don't have an FE, but I *do* know that on my computer (which uses Nvida graphics... I believe the FE does to) you can actually adjust screen dimming in two places:

    1. VAIO power settings. You've already checked this.
    2. Nvida control panel. I don't know what the default settings are for your computer, but in the Nvida control panel there are actually power saving modes for the graphics card ---- one of which will dim your screen after a certain period of time. I bet this is what's making your screen do what it's doing.

    Hope that helps!

Do you know how I get into the NVIDIA control panel? I found a place to edit settings, but it seems like its all in code.

right click on the desktop, and in my case, there would be something called NVIDIA control panel, go to Mobile - Config SmartDimmer

Thanks, I found that the NVIDIA controls were set to dim the brightness after 5 minutes of inactivity on battery power. I turned this off. I hope this fixes my problems.

    Hi
I've a sony FE790 .Im using it for 2 months. Im having this same problem of automatically dimness and then its stops working for a while on waking up.

Let me know if this problem is fixed by nvidia control settings.

IF the following advice does not work and you have an Nvidia card check the Driver version.
If you don't have 8.4.91 get it as this will reslove the issue.
I was using a newer driver by Nvidia because it had more settings, but the Dim issue was annoying and just reverted back.

Yes, this change seems to have worked for me. I have not had the slowness problems on startup or the automatic dimness on battery power. Thanks for the tips, everyone.

Don't know if any are still checking this thread, but I have the same issues with my 790. The mouse pointer will freeze for a few seconds. It's annoying, but I've never bothered to do anything about it.

While I have your attention, how's your battery life? Mine sucks. I also notice something that really bugs me. When I start up on battery, it used 12-13% of battery charge just to start up (to the point where the HD stops running constantly). That seems really excessive. Have you noticed this also?
