I have just installed Win7 on my Vaio FS38GP and most things seem to be working fine but it no longer recognises my wireless home network. There have been no changes to my network and my MSI Wind notebook continues to see the network and connects no problem.

I have looked in Device Manager and the only entry under "Network Adapters" is Intel (R) PRO/100 VE Network Connector, no wireless adaptor at all.

With XP I had no problems at all with wireless connectivity. I have connected the Sony to my Netgear Modem/Router via Ethernet and it connects with no issue.

Can anyone help me with this? If I can't get a fix I guess I'll have to go back to XP.

In Device Manager is there anything under unknown devices?

No "Unknown Devices" but under "Other Devices" there are Mass Storage Controller" and "Network Controller", both with an exclamation mark symbol. If I right click on either one and try to "Update Driver Software" I get a message that windows was unable to find drivers. If I "Scan for Hardware Changes" I get a message that device drivers were not successfully installed - details "No driver found"

I bet the Network Conroller is the one you need. It can't update the driver cuz it's not on the machine. You've got to install it manually.

Found the support page for your model
    VGN-FS38GP : Downloads : Support : Sony Australia
but can't seem to find any drivers.

What's the hardward id? Perhaps a google search of that, or a matching VAIO.

If I select hardware IDs for the network controller I get:
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_27538086&REV_05
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_27538086
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&CC_028000
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&CC_0280

Maybe that means something to you - it doesn't to me!

Thanks so much for your help: I installed those drivers and bingo, there was my network, and I have connected successfully.
