    Hi,

I ordered a sony fw laptop from sonystyle, and was wondering on the quality of the speakers, as I have heard mixed reviews about them. My sister has a unibody macbook and I was wondering if anyone has experience of the sound quality of these laptops comparitively. As the macbook is the only laptop I could really compare the fw's sound to as I have not heard any others.

So basically is the sound better, equal or worse than the unibody macbook's? when listening to music, watching films.

    Thanks

Regardless of make, laptop speakers will always sound bad so I don't know if either one would be better...

I've heard both and can say that I'd prefer the sound of the FW over the Macbook, but both are still bad compared to a decent set of speakers.

ok, i no laptop speakers are not great, after all its not what they are designed to do. I do intend to have some speakers to hook up to eventually, but as long as they are better than the macbook ill be ok for the moment. Im not an audiophile so i don't notice every little problem with speakers so i should be all right.

i've compared the z's to a macbook aluminum and the z speakers sound a lot better

i believe the fw's speakers are even better than the z... especially since they're so much bigger

i'm guessing that the speakers sony puts in its vaios are near as good as they get (for laptops) because sony has a speakers department.. they make quality speakers and headphones.. just like how their screens are excellent partially due to the fact that they have technology from their bravia line

Toshiba and other some other companies put Hardmon Kardon or Altec Lansing branded laptop speakers. Those were really good compared to regular ones.

If Sony could do that that'd be awesome.

I agree on the above opinion, but that is just me.

Horrible? They're still better than my Aluminum MacBook's screen.

    Macbook Pro?

That doesn't bode well. I was banking on the macbook pro having a good display - I've sent my FW back because I couldn't get on with the screen and was intent on buying the macbook pro instead.

Yes, I found the Eco screen on the FW dreadful. The colours were bleached and the definition of the contrast between colours and brightness was poor, like an over-exposed photo (regardless of how much I tried to customise it). The colours were unrepresentative (neutral it ain't), and I generally found the visual quality very harsh and fatiguing in use.

Spent ages with the ATI control center trying to get some sort of balanced and 'true' representative imaging (for creating web graphics), but it was unachievable.

Apologies, I assumed when you said 'aluminium' macbook you were referring to the unibody of the Macbook Pro, but it appears the macbooks also have aluminium unibodies.

So the macbook pros have better display and speakers to the more standard macbooks?

Could you not replace the speakers with better ones? That way you could fork out a bit and get a good pair. Good small speakers do exist, they just cost a bit. The speakers are about the cheapest part of a laptop
