Owners of Vaio FW series who have used both screens or atleast seen both could you please comment on this ? I'm looking to buy following configuration from Sonystyle.com
    Vaio FW-290 CTO with
    Microsoft® Works
    LCD 16.4" (XBRITE-FullHD™)
    No Fresh Start™
160 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [5400 rpm]
    Video Standard
    No Engraving
    Standard Battery
    QuickBooks Simple Start
WLAN (802.11a/b/g/n) with integrated Bluetooth® technology
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 with 512MB vRAM
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz)
    None
    DVD±R DL / DVD±RW / DVD-RAM Drive
    Windows Live OneCare 90-Day Trial
    Titanium Gray
    Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit
    2 GB DDR2-SDRAM (DDR2-800, 1GBx2)

    Under screen selection it says
    Wide Screen
The FW290 notebook features a 16.4" display with XBRITE-FullHD™ panel with a maximum resolution of 1920 horizontal pixels by 1080 vertical pixels, or an XBRITE-ECO™ display with a maximum resolution of 1600 horizontal pixels by 900 vertical pixels.

    XBRITE-ECO™ technology
This technology provides more brilliant colors, sharp contrast and crisp graphics - unlike anything you've seen on a notebook. Also featured is a special, anti-reflective coating that lessens glare and light reflection. XBRITE-ECO™ conserves battery life.

    XBRITE-FullHD™
Treat your eyes to something new. Enjoy the clarity and brilliance of a 1080p HD viewing experience wherever you go on your FW Series notebook. Whether you're viewing a Blu-ray Disc™ movie, gaming, viewing photos, or just plowing through your workload, XBRITE-FullHD™ technology delivers an industry-leading viewing experience marked by super-crisp hi-def detail, richer colors and a brighter display.

So is this thing true that if you opt for XBRITE-FullHD you get 1920x1080 resoultion ? Having more screen real estate is extremely important for me.
Also how much noticable difference it is between XBRITE-Eco screen and XBRITE-FullHD screen ?

    Thanks in advance.

The difference is huge between the 2 displays. The ECO is adequate but I found it too dim and the viewing angles were awful. The FullHD display is a dual-lamp screen with gorgeous colours, excellent viewing angles and higher brightness so I recommend it 100% to anyone. I'd never buy the ECO after seeing both of them.

Thanks man .. You saved me from just purchase the ECO one. I thought it was just resolution. Brightness is crucial, especially in laptops outdoors.

Hello and thanks for the answers in this thread.

Although it would seem backwards for me.

I have a Sony VGN-N130G with a X-Brite-ECO (This is much brighter and great contrast)

and I have a Sony VGN-AR230G that is only X-Brite Full HD 1080. (This is darker and has shadows and poor color/brightness at slight angle viewing) I am thinking there is something wrong with the screen display? bad hardware somewhere??

Any input would be great appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    M
