Looking to buy the 'configure-your-own' Vaio FW35V notebook.

Is the 2.4GHz Core2Duo CPU an Intel "P8600" or "T8300"? The Sony website doesn't say. Also what is the front side buss (FSB) speed of the notebook?

The FW35V looks like it is made of metal. Is it, or is it silver plastic? I hear some people have had problems with the silver finish of former VGN laptops wearing away to the raw white undercoat underneath due to unavoidable rubbing the chassis while typing or using the trackpad?

Is the 9-cell battery physically larger than the 6-cell (does it hang out more out the back?)

Is the "up to 3hrs" battery life quote for the 6-cell or 9-cell battery?

Finally, is the installation disc for the FW35V a fully clean Windows Vista installation disc (without the bundled Sony applications being installed by default), or is it merely a pre-set backup image of the system (with all Sony applications installed)?

    Cheers,

The specs I will be going for will be:

    Core2 Duo 2.4GHz
    Vista SP1 64-bit
    4GB 800MHz RAM
    512MB ATI Radeon HD3650
    320GB (5400RPM)
    8x DVD+/-RW
9-cell battery as the primary battery if possible
    16.4" WXGA++ (1600x900) X-Black

It is a valid model. a UK one. i just bought one and mine is in production.

    1) its a P8600. T8300 is a lower model that people dont use anymore.

    2) the case is mangesium or aliminium but the rest is plastic as far as i know.

    3) i dont think it stiicks out.

4)the "up to 3 hours" is for a the 6 cell battery, but it wont do that. it will do about 2h 30min on power saver and web browsing, word processing.

    5) sony dont give you restore discs, you make them yourself and they factory restore the laptop, which means you get all the crap back.
