I've done a search and couldn't find anything relevant.

My FZ of 28 months old has suddenly started making a faint buzzing noise from the screen. At first I thought it was the fan, but I realized it's the LCD. I can't change the brightness for some reason using Windows 7 but it's on Max Bright. I've seen some threads of people having this problem on lowered brightness levels but this is happening on full. When I shut the lid, the buzzing stops. It can be heard if I stand behind the laptop or place my ear beside either rear corner of the laptop.

Is this an inverter problem or just a matter of a loose connection? The laptop is otherwise perfect and also just had a new motherboard put in due to the Nvidia defect, and it's well out of warranty so going to Sony is not an option.

    Thanks.

You guys didn't help me. So I ended up accidentally destroying my entire inverter. Thanks, buddy.

You've only got yourself to blame if you don't know what you're doing.

Eh, buzzing is a sign of the inverter failing. Had to replace it anyway.

I was just joking you guys. I knew what I was doing but I was drunk at the time lol. Oops.

Yeah that's the way I looked at it. I managed to find a very cheap replacement part on eBay and the inverter just unplugs right out without any tools, so hopefully it'll be fine.

I actually tried to repair the inverter myself... I managed to get the screen to work for a few seconds (no buzz) then it died again.

Update - the new inverter works fine but when I dim the screen it starts buzzing and the screen starts flickering. Any thoughts?
