Hey guys I'm new to the forums, I joined to ask a few specific questions because you guys are by far the best online notebook community it seems.

I really love the way that the FZ is styled and I really want to buy one because of this over a Dell or an HP (which look as though they will snap like a twig), but I think its lacking in some aspects over other laptops.

I was just wondering, is there a possibility of the Vaio FZ getting a WSXGA (1680x1050) screen in the near future? If not, do you think that the current available screen space is adequate?

To help you answer that: I'm used to my 22'' widescreen running at that resolution.

    Another question:

I don't think that the 8400M is adequate for the light gaming I do, such as Counterstrike: Source and BF2. Somewhere of the forums I saw the 8600M GS available as an option, but it's not on the CTO form on sonystyle.com.

Also, do you think that there is a possibility of sony adding the 8600M GT or the 9600M (whenever it may come out)?

Sorry for the rambling, and thanks for any help.

Got an FZ31S last friday with a 1280x800 screen and I was initially worried about getting one this size as my desktop is a 22incher at 1650x1080.

I really don't have an issue with the screen res, as the screen on the laptop is 7" less than the desktop, if the res was any higher it'd be hard to read. Maybe if i went for a 17" screen the higher res would've been appreciated.

Sorry I can't comment on the graphics as I haven't played any, I have the 8600GS though.

I hear the models with the 8600GS are in Europe/UK whereas everyone else gets the 8400GS, even Japan!! I'd like to know why

I find the screen sizing and resolution great, but I'm coming from a 13" notebook. Pretty sure the resolution won't be upgraded anytime soon.

CS:Source will play well, can't say about BF2. TF2 plays at 1280x800 at about average 40fps (with no HDR).

With the new FZ4 series, it has become clear that Sony does not intend to put a better GPU in it. I wouldn't count on this unless you can get the European models. The FZ4 is brand new (starting shipping in Feb) so if any changes come about, it will be a while.

    Thanks for the responses.
Is there a way to swap out the video card? Is the video card even MXM II?

    No.

I have a 8400GT (64 MB dedicated, expandible to 840 mb i think), runs everything just fine... although not in high detail of course. Crysis, COD4, Bioshock... No brakes at all.

It's good to hear from you that 64MB 8400Gt run those games fine. I'm ordering mine at 512MB 8400GT, so I'd suppose my much better than yours or it just "lil bit" better ?

Yours will be able to run certain settings higher, such as resolution and texture quality.

 Sometimes de computer restarts by itself. Maybe its a heating problem, I really can´t figure it out. I Still can´t run crysis at all, even with the specific setting for crysis that exists on the video settings. Nvidia does not realese oficial drivers for laptops and sony seems to don´t care with the graphic problems that de 8400 Gt is giving.
