I bought a sony vaio fz145e last month and can't get the camera to work. I've tried AIM and Yak, but I keep getting a message that the camera is in use by another application. I've tried reinstalling the driver, but that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've had the same problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

This is what I do to make it work again:

Go to device manager and navigate to imaging device. You should see the camera hardware there. Right click on it and disable it. Then wait until the tree refreshes. Then right click on it again and click enable. That should do the trick to make it work again with AIM, MSN etc.

But remember not to have any programs running while your disabling, enabling in the device manager. If you do have some programs running, it might tell you to restart in order for it to take effect.

This is the way I do it. But I'm pretty sure there are some patches out there that can permanently fix this. Just not sure where...

Also, check the sony support site for some help.

Hey guys, i had the exactly same problem as you, and so I got here to get some help... but once I entered msconfig, I realized why it was happening... Windows start up the camera for itself, so if you try to open the program, it will give us the message: "An attempt to initizalize the camera failed." To fix this, enter msconfig( search for it in the search bar of start menu for Vista users ) and type; msconfig. Disable the VAIO camera Capture Utility from starting up with windows, and this will fix the problem... I did this and now it´s working fine...

Well, does that disable the ability to take pictures without software like AIM?
