    Hi

I understand vista home has a 4gb limit and will only show 3.5gb has anyone upgraded to 4gb using generic? I have seen some ram compatible would it be best to buy a 2gb and putting it along side one of the sony preinstalled 1gb ram modual or buying 2x 2gb moduals and replaceing them both making a full 4gb.

    Thanks

    Carl

Matching modules will gain you dual-channel mode, which can increase performance as much as 10%. Whether that is important enough to you to buy 2 new sticks I don't know, but if you were buying 2 sticks anyway, I'd definitely go with 4GB over 3GB. Besides gaining dual-channel and probably a few hundred additional meg of usable RAM, you might actually install a 64-bit OS one day that lets you use it all.

How much over 3GB you see with a 32-bit OS depends on the PC/notebook in question, it can be as little as 3.0GB available, or as much as 3.4GB or so. My AR670 can use only 3.0GB, but that's due to the amount of hardware installed/supported. Less equipped models can usually access more because the memory mapped I/O footprint is smaller.

Hi guys. I've ordered a FZ-285U/B and 2 kingstong modules (2 x 2GB) to upgrade it to 4 GB RAM. I've bought both at Amazon, and I've called them to make sure that the Kingston expansion modules I was buying were compatible with the laptop. The answer was yes. So I've open it, changed the 2 modules (2 x 1 GB) to my 2 x 2GB modules. After turn it on, it recognized only 3GB. Does anybody have any idea about that? How could I let Windows Vista Ultimate recognize the 4 GB???

    Thanks in advance!

well you can't use all 4 gb in 32 bit operating system. You must use a 64 bit operating system to use all 4GB ram in your computer. It is compatible, yes, Santa Rosa Platforms can hold up to 4gb of RAM. Go into your BIOS after you turn on your computer, you'll see that it has 4GB of RAM.
