My FZ21S has suddenly decided to keep its CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz (max is 2.2 GHz) when on battery power, even when I use RMClock to force it to max performance. I'm quite sure that it wasn't like that earlier, it just started happening all of a sudden. I've put every setting I can find to try and force it to max performance, and I'm sure there must be a way?

    Any solutions?

disable speed stepping in the BIOS...I know the Dell BIOS lets you do that, but im not sure if the Sony ones do!

The only way around this is to disable speed stepping....

What Windows power profile is used when you are running on battery? And what is set for the processor states (under Advanced settings, Processor power management)?

H3rman: I don't want to disable speed stepping entirely. My CPU will not go beyond 1.2, which is the lowest speedstep state. Even if I do something CPU intensive, unless on AC Power.

John: I've tried various different power plans (including High Performance) and I've set all of the processor power management settings at 100% (because that only controls throttling not the multiplier), but still no luck.

I can guarantee its the speed stepping, it does this on battery to conserve power, like I say you wont get round this without disabling it....

Try disabling it, and test it, just to confirm it is the speed stepping. Then once you find out if it is that, you can decide what to do.

AFAIK, the BIOS controls speed stepping, so there is no way to change it, cos most BIOS's only give you an on or off option, and dont let you play with more detailed settings.

I haven't got a setting in the BIOS for speedstep... does this happen with all FZ series laptops?

Click the power icon in the system tray (aka notification area).

Select "more power options". You will see what's in the attachment Capture1.jpg.

Click on the corresponding "change plan settings". You will see capture2.jpg.

Click on "change advanced power settings". You will see capture3.jpg.

Expand the option labeled "Processor Power Managment". You will see capture4.jpg.

This entry will let you control the minimum and maximum processor speed while on battery or a/c power.

I'm not sure on this one. All I would recommend is a System Restore, if you know when the problem started (and have the restore point).

Sorry I couldn't be any help.

Still no thoughts on this? It seems that the FZ forces the CPU to stay at 6x multiplier when on battery. I used CrystalCPUID as well to try and force the multiplier to 11x (highest, 2.2 ghz) and it shows me something like, selected multiplier: 11x, currently active multiplier: 6x .. lol.. I really hope Sony releases a BIOS update which does not force the CPU to stay at minimum speed. I think that is pretty sh*tty.

The BIOS is not forcing this. My FZ190 operates at full speed on battery when needed. Something else, not the BIOS, is causing this issue for you.

Sorry to bump this thread, but this issue is still occurring. Can anyone else with an FZ2 series UK version laptop confirm if the same behavior happens on their notebook?

Or can anyone suggest an alternative? I've updated RMClock to the latest version and still no use. :(
