    Thank you. I thought as much. I noticed some light bleeding from the bottom of the screen in a couple of video reviews as well. I guess there's no reason to expect otherwise until they start putting OLED screens in laptops. Which is high time I suppose.

    How often do you calibrate your display devices?

    Also , there is still research going into OLED screens to make them suffer less and less from the problems that they have now.

    This may have sense for a PC monitor or a TV set. But for a laptop a few years is its lifetime.

    I did some testing and noticed extreme gpu frequency drops. According to gpu-z the gpu frequency drops from 1000 to 150 mHz for a millesecond or something while playing games or 4k videos.
    Can anyone else confirm this ?

    Try to disable live tiles, not nessecary processes.
    Open cmd (admin) and type: powercfg /energy

    Okay Clerish, going by your original request here.

    - Start from 100%, and use it as you normally would (but please no heavy usage)
    - After three hours, take note of the % left
    - Shut it down and plug it
    - After 1h 10m, turn it on and take note of the % of battery.
    - That's it. Post the two percentages.

    and going by the setting you also specified here, I started the test at 3:00 PM EST

    Did the following throughout the 3 hours.
    A: some note taking,
    B: checking mail (using Chrome),
    C: searches and forum reading (additional Chrome tabs)
    D: Don't have CodeBlocks for coding, so I substituted VBA in Excel on a large macro spreadsheet.
    E: Open Bluestacks and left Falcon Pro twitter app running.

    At 6:00 PM EST, checked the percentage and it states: 1 hour 59 minutes (34%) remaining
    At 6:01 PM EST, turned off device and plugged in the charger.

    At 7:10 PM EST, turned on device and the percentage shows: 93% remaining

    TS out

    So after owning the 13A for a week I really wish I could say I'm totally happy with it but I'm not. I used it on a flight from Baltimore to Vegas (a little over 5hours) to watch a movie. I had it at 100% before I boarded the plane. I was watched 2 movies and the battery was down to less then 10%. To me that isn't great battery life for a Haswell. Also the fan still bugs me. It can get quite loud when watching a movie. Those are probably my only 2 things from making me love this device. Form factor is great. I switched it to presentation mode on the plane and made watching a movie better then in laptop mode.

    Wow. First sony says the latest date they sent is the shipping date. A day later I get a mail with my first shipping date (11-16 November).
    Now I get a mail saying 16-21 November. That's lame.
    The Yoga Pro 2 is finally available in Germany (1300€ / 1600€ ;) but with the screen issue I won't get it.

    I am having the same issue. The touch screen just cuts out and the only way to get it to come back on is to go into the device manager and disable/enable. The display model at bestbuy did the same thing while i was messing around with it. I just chalked it up to being a display model. They have a serious problem they need to address.

    The fan noise is not that bad to be honest. I don't notice it, but then again I haven't really put the cpu to work. Its a really nice form factor but i think this thing is going back to the store if we can't resolve the touch screen problem.

    Thank you once again for your help.

    It seems that the Flip manages to recharge its battery quite fast, and I guess ~93% should be enough for 4:30 hours of light use, maybe lowering the brightness a bit more.

    I can't take the Flip 13 out of the list yet then, so to decide I'll have to see its price when it comes to brick and mortar stores (since in the Sony store in Italy it costs more than what I can find the Duo 13 for).

    I've had the muti flip 13A i5 8GB 256GB version since Sunday. Difficult to make my mind up on it at the present. Form factor is truly brilliant, considering I do lots of short flights will be very useful in these scenarios. Have upgraded to 8.1 and just sorting out the drivers at present.

    Main complaint is the fan. Loudness doesn't quite cover it. I am not massively sensitive to noise but it really is ridiculous. For those who want to use it in class, IMO there is no way you wont disturb a 5 meter radius around you. Even with the laptop idling, the fan is on and is LOUD. Also noticed an occasional popping sound when using the left hand side when clicking the trackpad, but the click is still registered and may just it be loosening up so to speak. Have the 4 year free warranty so not so concerned at present.

    Sony really need to put out a fan profile update or they will put alot of folk of what is otherwise a great laptop IMO.

    Hi guys,

    I decided to return the 13 inches 128 GB version to get the 256GB version, so I tried to reset it to factory default setting which is window 8 ( right now it is window 8.1) However, it keeps saying missing file and I can't move forward. Any idea how to do this?

    Many thanks!

    Guess I'm lucky as I have the same one I got from BB and it is fine for me, have not heard anybody around me complained about the noise. I usually leave it in standard mode, only changed to silence when in class.

    Wow. I'm waiting for my 14A for exactly 5 weeks now (ordered at 8th), and will have to wait for at least another one. If it really finally ships with that big of a problem I'm going to be reeeaaally pissed!
    Did anyone try a 14A where this problem didn't occure?
    Is this hardware or software related?

    That's the number I've been using. The Sony support email is on the account log in page, below the boxes, the number should be there too. It's a London number, not a premium one handily.
    I was on the phone to them at lunch time today, if I don't hear any good news on shipping then I'm probably going to cancel on Friday because the delays are now ridiculous after promising that there wouldn't be any more. Handily it's part of our rights as consumers to be able to cancel the order up to 7 days after receiving the order, if it's not been received within 30 days or the agreed time scale after ordering.

    Thank you, I've sent them an email for now, hopefully there won't be any issues in changing it, I probably would have cancelled my order already, but there just aren't any alternatives that fit what I want. I've noticed now also that the green text saying production has started has disappeared, I'm a little worried that my half built laptop is sat gathering dust.

    Edit: I'm probably being delusional but looking back in this thread suggests that when the green text disappears the laptop is about to be dispatched, so my email could possibly cause some confusion.

    No problem. I unfortunately put the wrong mobile number in my angry email, so they rang my home phone whilst I was still at work and my mum answered but they didn't leave any message. If they left a voicemail I don't know, all I know is that it was an international number. I just hope they reply back via email now. I still have the green text.
    If I have to end up cancelling, it looks like my cousin in the Philippines won't be receiving a laptop this christmas after all.

    Guys I wanted an information..since this is gonna be my first big order, in terms of money, I wanted to know how the "send back the machine" works, I mean the only thing that concerns me is the fan noise, but I read really different opinions on this so I think I'll give the flip a try. If my machine will be unbearably loud I just have to pack it in the original box and contact Sony using the internet or the phone and just wait for them to get my machine? I will have a full refound? This thing works always? Do I have to know something? Thank you very much and sorry for my ignorance :)

    Hi pclover,

    If I recall correctly, with the laptop off -- push the Sony Assist button. That will bring up Sony's own proprietary recovery process as they don't follow Windows standard methods.

    Yeah, I tried but it failed, talked with 2 Sony tech support and one guy told me to ship the machine to them for repair and the reason is due to software conflict. Doesn't make any sense to me :-(

    I just did the same. I would really like to purchase this device again if there is a fix. Although, if battery life is better on the 14(which some have reported), I may go for that one instead of the 13. It's larger than I want, but it's also $300 cheaper.

    I would not be too optimistic about Sony to resolve this fan issue. If the problem could be corrected only with the software update, I am sure they would have done that already. I mean, there would be simple and quick solution.
    But I reckon the problem is in hardware/design solutions.
    Possible causes:
    The design of the processor/motherboard/external "fuselage" flaws in the heat generation and especially in the heat dissipation so the aggressive cooling is necessary to avoid damage of other components or extensive localized temperature of the actual laptop;
    Flaw/inappropriate in/out temperature sensors;
    Cheap fan control boards with lack of the resistors for finer dosage of fan's rpm;
    Design of the fan which generates too much/bad quality noise;
    Design of the vents on "the fuselage" what can also contribute to the noise.

    In either way, I'm sure they will not recall devices to change the part with the issue.

    check out my sig it has the link to the tear down and to answer your question, yes it looks easy to replace. Only problem is that that type of drive is expensive.
    Also on Sonys website there is a video showing the teardown.

    I did some benchmarking and noticed some bizarre results.
    With Vaio Settings set to "Performance" and full speed in the energy options i started furmark with gpu-z and hwinfo64 to monitor the results.
    After running for some minutes the gpu clock was fluctuating at a enormous rate, meanining that the fps were dropping every few seconds and so on. I added the screenshot here.
    Can anyone else confirm this:

    As mentioned in the other thread, I don't really hold this review in high regard. They assume the CPU temp is high without measuring it. Lisa from Mobiletechreview did, with surprisingly low temperatures as a result.

    The fan noise problem has bugged Sony's products for years. Even such expensive as their famous Z-series laptops. So that is not news to them.
    What I really cannot understand is why with such beautiful designs of their products they can't just buy those darn fans from the Apple contractors.

    I request a send-back and will hand it in this afternoon.
    Looks like Sony didnt learn of their previous issues :( This makes me so sad, because it would be the perfect device otherwise...
