    Hi,
I'm new here. I recently bought a SONY VAIO FZ11L wich i think is pretty decent, it comes with vista and runs quite good on it.

When i got it i cleaned all the software i didnt want (demo's, triels etc) and set it up all nice and how i wan it, disabling all the services i dont use too. I have installed sowftare such as office, nero etc and added a password to my account.

The thing is that when i input my password and it goes to log in there is alot of hdd activity and takes 10 - 15 seconds for my desktop to appear and the hdd activity carrys on for some time after but there's hardly anything in the run. The thing is too that when i didnt have a password and it logged straght in it seemed faster to load my desktop. Why is this?

Also, when i first got the laptop i was going to scrap vista and just stick to good old xp but since this model comes with a SATA hdd, there is no way to load the drivers into the xp boot cd. I read up about this problem and everyone was going on about using nLite to streamline a driver straght onto the cd but i tried this and it never worked, so i just thought i would stick with vista considering it ran pretty well.

I'm also considering to buy the extended battery pack for this and was wondering does it actually extend the battery time?

    Thanks for your responses

Just one more thing i forgot to mention, in the service list in Vista i've noticed that there are quire a few services that run twice, example:

    taskeng.exe User
    taskeng.exe System
    csrss.exe System
    csrss.exe System

Whats going on there? because of this maybe its because i have a massive 47 processes running considering i went though the services disabling ones i dont use, i must have disabled at least 10 - 15.

well, i can comment that the extended battery will increase battery life, but keep in mind that it sticks out and kind of ruins the sleek form factor of the fz, if ur willing to spend upwards of 200 dollars, then go for it.
