made a post at the other session with no reply seem I should ask here.

Anybody bought or seen a Vaio NR notebook?
    Is the screen quality good?
And it's equipped with a 200G 4200rpm HD, is it very slow?

I am in UK the model is VGN - NR 11, US might got a different model number but I believe at least the screen should be the same.

We've got a VAIO NR arriving today and we'll be reviewing it in the next week or two. I'll try and post some first thoughts here if I get the chance over the weekend.

Has any of you had problems with the Vaio NR?

Some user reviews at Amazon say that it easily breaks down, and that this is because of a pemanent defect in the VAIO line. The issue supposedly stems from the memory SODIMM slots. The solder joints that connect the SODIMM's to the motherboard are breaking... When that happens, you won't be able to use the laptop.

    Is this true?

I bought a NR110E/S model about a month ago. So, far Im satisfied with it. I havent had any problems with the memory slots, I upgraded the memory from 1GB to 2GB a few weeks ago.

The keyboard has no input buttons for the DVD-drive. Does this mean that DVDs can not be viewed in full screen, since play, forward and rewind must be managed onscreen?

Um I really hope you are a computer newbie, heard of onscreen displays autohiding after you press play? = fullscreen playback.

Back to the other question, the NR is pretty good for a cheap and lets face it, this is cheap for a sony with those specs. I also have a FZ model, the keyboard on the NR feels a little bit more 'cheap' thinner plastic used maybe? but the overall build quality is solid.

Screen is most probably at the lowest enb of the Sony scale, not as crisp and clear as th FZ model, but still better than most in the same price range from other brands.

As usual expect the bloatware, really slow to at first until you decrap the machine, after that a great bargain on amazon.

I just received my NR290ET. It is a beauty! Stylish. And the brown color sparkles in copper tone under certain lights.

It does have a few dead pixels. Is this common? Otherwise the screen is very nice, with lush colors.

Hmm... how do I turn off the computor completely? I press the power button, but there is still a red light blinking on the front edge.

    Great joke, eloidan...

    To shut-down (Vista OS) :

    - Click on "Start" at bottom-left of the screen. A dialog box appears.
    - Within this box, click on that little right-arrow button at the bottom-right.
    - Click on "Shut Down".

    Thanks.

I managed to remove the "dead" pixels! See my post in the "Dead Pixels?" thread.
