Are there any reviews or user feedback on the VAIO NW? I would like to know if anyone can comment on the build/performance on the NW and also if it possible to make XP work on it. It seems the only CPU configuration Sony is offering is either with a 2.0GHz or 2.1GHz Processor. I wonder if it's possible to upgrade the CPU on this machine or if its soldered directly on the mainboard.

    Thanks for the feedback :)

Don't own an NW, but being a Sony user for long time, I can only say that Soy machines are of quality built.

You can always try to make XP works, but why?

    cheers ...

XP is leaner and faster than Vista and I there is nothing new in Windows 7 that is much different than in Vista.

I just wonder if it's possible to upgrade the CPU on the NWs or if its soldered directly on the mainboard as the only CPU configuration Sony is offering is either with a 2.0GHz or 2.1GHz Processor.

Not sure about the CPU thing, but I looked into installing XP on the NW. There aren't any official drivers on the Sony site for XP drivers. I guess it's possible to get them individually, but it was too much of a hassle for me. I've only had the NW for a day and I've already learnt to accept Vista. It's not actually that bad imo.. but I'm not really fussy about speed or anything, as long as it works. Plus vista looks better =p

I had quite a time tracking down XP drivers for my Toshiba a305 notebook. Although it was nice to have the snappy, clean-looking XP back I did notice that it couldn't handle a heavy load as smoothly as the Vista-64 that was preloaded.

Also keep in mind that the NW (NW125J at least) comes with 4GB of RAM, but WinXP will only use 2GB (give or take a few MB). Vista-64 with SP1 runs surprisingly well on the NW. Sony did an admirable job of tuning Vista for the NW.

If you buy an NW now you are eligible for a free upgrade to Win 7. I already submitted my registration.
