3-4 year old Vaio Model PCG-GRT260G. Seems to overheat 2-3 times a week and everything shuts down. Any advice? I have to prop up laptop on books to all fan and better circulation to avoid. SHould I put new gel between the processor and heat sync?

    THanks,

Same thing happened to my vaio and it turn to be from the dust and dirt accumulated over and around the fan. In my case I removed the keyboard and then used the air spry to remove the dust. I was amazed by the amount of dust came out of my laptop. Since then my laptop haven't heated and shot down.

Yeah....its most likely due to the dust in your notebook. Get an air duster and use it to blow away the dust from the vents/fans/etc.
