The Singapore models (SGD 1299 and SGD 1699) don't have WWAN built-in, but are slightly cheaper. Weight is stated to be 620grams with a 60GB hard disk, or 584 grams with a 64GB SSD (including battery).

The faster model differentiates itself by having the SSD, a 1.6Ghz Atom (instead of 1.33) and Vista Home Premium (instead of basic).

    I'm frankly tempted.

w/o the 3G-hspda, this is a deal killer for me. i want to just bring something light for word typing while in school. i'm starting to find that vaio-z is too heavy for my need

but i find that vaio-p w/o 3g module installed is useless, since i have to bring an extra usb modem for that purpose as well...

can anyone confirm whether the jpn / other countries model is able to do a purchase with (unlocked) version of the 3g module?

tempted to import from other countries

The Japanese model will use a WWAN/3G card that is locked to the NTT DoCoMo network (UMTS 2100mhz). From what I can gather, there is no indication of exactly which model 3G card it is, so I don't think anyone can confirm whether it can be unlocked or if it supports other 3G frequencies.

However the preliminary dissections show that it uses a standard mini-PCIe slot for the 3G card, so it should be possible for you to buy your own unlocked 3G card (internal, not dongle) and install it by yourself.

I recomend to import it from Conics.net

They offer 3G option but you will have to go here to unlock it:
    http://www.dc-unlocker.com/

Is pretty easy, a friend of mine imported a Z from them and the 3G is working just fine!
