so, i revived this thing from the dead after soldering in a new CCFL...working great so far...

I want to get rid of the restore images and put a new OS on it, but my issue is when i go to the BIOS to change the boot order, i CAN change it to optical first, but when the unit reboots, the drive light shows activity, but seems to bypass it after a few moments and moves to the HDD

    am i missing something here?

Im just looking for a simple way to make this thing read the CD drive on boot so I can install an OS....cant figure out why its turning out to be a pain in the arse...

    thanks in advance!

Did you try with an installation CD inside the optical drive?

    cheers ...
