    Dear All,

as this question was asked several times, here is an image that can give you "feeling" what are the actual differences.

from left to right: Carbon Black, Premium Carbon, Carbon Natural Black (from german source Naturschwartz)

This is US model, so you have to check with retail store, as there are quite differences in "customization" for US and Europe: in US you can choose keyboard color (silver/black), but can't get 800MHz memory module (only 667MHZ)....
I have bought mine in Germany (SZ series).

One note, in japanese there's written from left to right: "Black (Carbon)", "Premium Carbon" and just "Black"

    Thanks for this thread!

Does this mean that the only difference is the color and the finish of the housing, or are there any differences in quality of the carbon?

I can barely see the weave on my lid. I'm not sure if it's even a N/B? Does the model number on the laptop itself say N/B? Because mine says just N and not N/B.

No physical differences, only the finish looks different.

Actually, i have the premium carbon fiber, and its the middle one, not the one to far right. what i can tell those of you who have not seen it in person is that sometimes it looks just like that picture in the middle - sort of brown, almost wood grain like, and other times it looks like gray wood grain. sometimes, its purplish...And yet at other times, its richly black and you can't see much of the grain. It changes with different angles and light sources.

I love it. But most of the time i don't even see it (because the laptop is open!). in summary tho - its defiitely not the one on the far right.

For U.S. SZ models, the model numbers ending with "/C" usually mean Black Carbon while the model numbers ending with "/X" usually mean Premium Carbon.

For U.S. TZ models, the model numbers ending with "/B" usually mean Black Carbon while the model numbers ending with "/XC" usually mean Premium Carbon.

Wait - Germany had a SZ model with 800Mhz memory? As far as I know the GM965 Express chipset only supports up to 667Mhz.

That doesn't make any sense. The only explanation I can think of is that they are selling you DDR2-800Mhz which actually runs at 667Mhz.

My German is a little rusty - which link is the "Customize" option?

That's where you ordered your notebook from right? Would you mind taking a couple of screencaps from CPU-Z (CPU, Mainboard, & Memory) so we can identify the hardware?

You can download it here if you don't already have it.

I am afraid iisdve is right. The memory runs at 667 Mhz.

I find this a very sneaky sales tactic. You might want to contact your supplier about this.
