So the Vaio Pro has one of those hinges that folds under the laptop when you open it. That's fine for using it on a desk but I am concerned about it being uncomfortable when using it on my lap, which I do with my existing laptop almost 100% of the time. Does that ridge get annoying or is it quite comfortable?

It's not really a problem, it will still rest on the bottom part as the hinge is pretty small. Of course you will feel it, but it wont be a problem!

I would have thought it would bother me at first, but the fact is it doesn't due to the lightweight nature of the laptop.

Well fortunately its not some sharp 10 kg gold bar resting on your lap.. Oh wait, that wouldn't be bad at all! Anyways, it shouldn't be a problem unless you're like crazy skinny so it will press directly at your bones.
