I don't own one but from the videos and information I've seen, only the Vaio T has a mSATA port with SATA III specification. The Vaio S series has only a standard SATA port.

Vaio S HDD versions come with standard sata port.
However Vaio S SSD versions have this:

    Thanks .....

so, if I ordered the S 15" with 640GB HDD< it will have a SATA port, and the appropriate SSD aftermarket upgrade would be a SATA (not an mSATA) drive. Right?

It's always a normal SATA connection whether you buy it with SSD or without.

You can buy any kind of SATA SSD and put it in without problems.

Edit: For clarification, if you buy the SSD version from Sony I think you'd need to get a different connector cable if you wanted to change SSD, although I see no reason for doing that really.

I can confirm it's a standard SATA connection, not an mSATA. I put in one of the Seagate hybrid drives and it makes a world of difference over the 5400rpm that ships with it. The SSDs are too expensive once you get over 500GB. The 750GB hybrid is under $150.00 now.
