Hello,
Despite I am really satisfied with my Vaio S serie notebook, I would like to be able to work on it.
Here is the problem, when I am using Adobe Photoshop and the computer Graphic switch is in Speed mode, the AMD graphic card driver often crashes.
Meaning at least once every hour, sometimes more, sometimes less. Crashes seems to happen when changing fonts or doing random modifications.
Of course, it also causes Photoshop to stop running.
Is there any patches to solve this problem ? I have been using some of the other Adobe Cs6 suite softwares, and the driver for the graphic card does not crashes that often.
I have tried to deactivate the graphic processor acceleration inside Photoshop Preferences but it does not change anything. No crashes on Diablo 3 for example..
My Graphic card is an AMD Radeon HD 6630M. And my driver is updated to the last version (A2DVID-00254633-0042 from August 15th 2011)
I have sent emails describing the problem to Sony but no answer so far. Will post it here if I have some news.
Any solution would be really highly appreciated,
I tried to look for archives talking about this problem here but did not find any.
The problem also seems to happen on Minecraft.

you can download the latest mobility drivers from AMD and install them on top of SONY drivers (that is, without uninstalling SONY drivers first). be warned that you might lose video playback functionality (green flash videos and/or black local video files). or to keep the video playback intact, download mobility Catalyst 12.2 or anything before that.

Thanks so much for this quick reply!
So despite they recommand to refer to Sony for the latest drivers, it is also possible to install the Mobility Catalyst on top ?
Not further compatibility problems to expect ?
I will just try and post the results here. Any idea also why this crash could happen ?
Thanks! -
After a while sony answered me and notified me that there is a patch for the AMD driver :
Graphics Driver (AMD) Update version 8.862.4.4000 : Download : Sony Asia Pacific
Patch which brings up the Catalyst manager.. I am trying it out after removing the old Mobility Catalyst (which seemed to work well) -

^ SONY's driver is based on Catalyst 11.6 (that is, it's one year and five months old). as for compatibility problems with new Catalyst releases, as i mentioned above, the video playback might not work properly. you can fix the green flash videos by disabling Flash hardware acceleration (right click on a Flash video, and disable that), but black local video files will not be fixed. ymmv.

Thanks Darxide -
Indeed the Sony driver is not fixing the problem. so I am back on Catalyst 12.1..
Hopefully it will work out. It is only for video playback issues, then it is gonna be fine.
Thanks a lot again. This thing is driving me crazy.. -
So far there is still bugs, but much less than before..
Looking fwd to see new updates or to have any other solutions to avoid these bugs completely..
Thanks -
