I got my Sony Vaio S170P 5 days ago. In general I love it, but I've started to notice a problem that I think is software related and I could really use your help out there, as I'm not that technical.
The OS is XP Pro. The system comes with Norton Internet Security pre-installed. I've installed the freeware version of ZoneAlarm. I have the XP baby firewall disabled.
Here's the problem. Every once in a while the system locks up for about 60 seconds or so. If I have several windows open, I can switch from window to window via the task bar at the bottom or via ALT + Tab, but clicking on items brings no response. In a minute or so it unlocks and then I can proceed, but it's really annoying.
Could ZoneAlarm and Norton be interacting to cause this? Could it be something else? I can't see any pattern yet as to what I'm doing or what's open when it happens, but I'm watching.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Other than this, I'm in love with the thing!

I know that Norton likes to hog system resources. I used to use zone alarm, but switch to sygate, which is also free, and find it doesnt tax the system as much as zone alarm. You could also try AVG anti virus free edition instead of norton. Also run a virus scan. You can get a good online virus scan at: http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Also get and run these programs:
Adaware: http://www.download.com/Ad-aware/3000-8022-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-2
Spybot: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022-10289035.html?tag=lst-0-2
Also run disk defragmenter located under START, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS.
Thats all I can think of for now.
