Bought a Vaio S series and all was well.

Had to do a system restore due to an infiltration of malware and other crap, just 15 days later.

All was well after the restore. Completely back to new.

Now ... while the computer is plugged in ... and only while its plugged in .... the computer goes into hibernate/sleep mode within 2 minutes and 20 seconds of inactivity (mouse/keyboard).

When on battery power only, it stays on no problem.

All ... and i mean all ... of my power settings are set to "Never" go into hibernate/sleep mode. Everywhere I can think of.

I don't know what to do.

    This video shows my settings:

    Problem - YouTube

I don't know if its sleep or hibernate, but the computer screen goes black, and the power button begins to blink in "red" light. I have to press power for it to instantly pop back on again.

I can hear the hard drive or something when it comes back on.

    SOLUTION

Apparently this is a bug with the VAIO CONTROL CENTER.

Not sure why i didn't have the problem prior to my system restore. But if you're also having this issue (probably with any sony VAIO computer), try this:

In Windows 8 - go to Start Screen - type Vaio ... you'll see Vaio Control Center as one of the icons which appears.

Under "Image Quality" there is a setting called "Display Brightness".
"Set whether to sense the brightness and automatically adjust the display brightness accordingly"

If this is on, set it to Off.

The Sony Support rep told me that this setting causes a total override of whatever is set in the Windows Power options. Clearly a huge bug.

He said turning this off, disables that general "override" and allows the computer to behave as it should, as per windows power settings.

Once he turned this off, and I rebooted, the problem went away. It seems to now be paying attention to the settings I have in windows power options.
