The Vaio will not lock down, but do you trust a generic battery to make your laptop work? I sure wouldnt trust mines to one (then again mines was $2k+). The batteries are probably chinese knock-offs that might not even hold the same charge as the orginals, not to mention, they could leak and/or overheat and injure you... i'd say too risky...

I've been curious about this also (and waiting for someone to try it), however if the SR is any guide it's likely to be a risky proposition.

A battery is a battery Achusaysblessyou :) For what is worth you might even get a better quality than the original ;) What do you think is in your "original" battery? My Fujitsu-Siemens one which I opened up had 6 Panasonic Cells, which you can buy separately and replace for much lower price! No space-technology dude ;)

But statistically - yes - it is more risky than buying an original. Taking the usual price difference into account and knowing that Cell battery suppliers are not as many as you think they would be - you usually get similar quality.
