I purchased a vaio S13 (SVS13125CA) that came with Win8 preinstalled 2 weeks ago and today I tested the webcam and found the quality to be really horrible.

During day time, its acceptable with little noise, however in a low-light condition (room light), the camera is extremely bad, the noise is all over the image even when I try to increase the brightness in the Windows 8 camera app. It seems the camera is not adjusting with the light condition. I want to know if anybody is facing the same issue, and if there is an alternative driver to fix this issue.

    Thanks

Windows 8 - The OS with a split personality.

Windows 8 is a prescription for usability problems. No business will tolerate this software, let me assure you. As a productivity tool, it is unusable.

seriously i don't think the camera has anything to do with the usability of windows 8 or anything business related....and btw my company just changed to w8 and after the usual adjustement with the mouse gesture and stuff, everybody's happy with the faster system..

@mbushnaq Have you tried to use another software to test the camera? like skype for the matter just to see if other apps are having the same problem. if the all have the same problem i think it's really the camera quality that is like this. i have the same low light quality on my Z but it's a 2 years old.

thanks for the reply. I have downloaded a trail version of webcam companion 4 to test, and the image is a little better with the enhancements on, however all other laptops I have seen have much better contrast/brightness compared to the Vaio S.

Also, I went to the mall to test other laptops like mine, but the lighting there was bright so I couldn't tell the difference. :(

There's only so much a lens like that can do in low light. It doesn't have the aperture or sensor to capture that much light.

its seems I have to live with it. What pisses me off is the false advertisement for the "Exmor R" camera and "xLoud" sound, yet the camera and speakers are the worst part of the laptop

I just bought a Vaio S15, and webcam was working fine even in a low-light condition, but after a day while playing with Gesture Control suddenly the quality became horrible. The image is now really dark regardless of lighting conditions.

Have you found any solution to your problem?

sony is famous for crap speakers and crap webcams.

in fact i am pretty sure i have never owned a smartphone that even had worse speakers then any of my vaios
