    Hi all,

My fan is blowing at 100%. The symptoms match a 2010 issue on F series (see link). One reportedly successful solution was clearing the CMOS by removing its battery (along with every other power source), which I tried, twice, without success.

Below is a summary of the issue.

    Story:
    • Spilled tea on keyboard, multiple malfunctions ensued
    • Replaced motherboard with slightly different model, laptop fixed, ran fine
    • One exception: When running on battery, resuming from sleep on Windows would immediately shut down the machine. It would restart automatically after a few seconds. Never happened on the old motherboard.
    • A couple of times, fan started spinning full blast, but everything came back to normal after a reboot
    • For two weeks now, fan has not stopped blowing at full speed.

    Symptoms:
    • OS independent (happens on Windows, Linux, Grub, BIOS config)
    • Happens exactly 35 seconds after power on / resume from sleep, even after a night off
    • Power mode (stamina/speed) independent
    • Everything else seems to work just fine
    • Temperatures are fine

    What I tried:
    • Reset BIOS settings to default
    • Change power settings in Vaio Control Center
    • Install different version of Vaio Control Center
    • Install different version of nvidia drivers (probably useless)
    • Remove CMOS battery for 10 hours to clear supposedly corrupt settings.
    No change whatsoever.

    Specs:
    • Vaio S13. Don't know the exact model number as the stickers on the bottom are contradictory (SVS1313C5E likely).
    • Black, not premium, Windows 8 sticker, 12GB RAM, 540m, i5-3230m
    • Windows 8.1/Ubuntu dual-boot (might be relevant to my problem)

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks !

Did you ever find a solution to this? My fan started going full blast too after a crash. Identical symptoms for me.

I've tried everything short of doing a fresh install of Windows but I'm also dual booting Ubuntu and have same issue there so not sure if a fresh install will fix it.

I've tried 3rd party fan control software but can't get them to work either. No option to control fan from BIOS.

    This is really annoying me!

Well, i was using an outlet without a ground connector for the power supply; reverting to the ground connector apparently fixed it. Weird.

Strange, so if you connect to that outlet again will the fan go back to 100%?

I'm using the same outlet I used before the problem and just tried starting up on battery power alone, still on full.
