Hi all,
First thing first, I am wondering what the difference between the carbon black finish and the gun metallic finish? Is it worth the extra £30?
Unfortunately My local Sony store only had carbon black and a silver model.
So I couldn't really gauge the difference.

Initial impressions:
The Vaio is quite light, feels solid and well built that said there is considerable flex in the screen but the hinge is stiff (I'm sure they intended it to be like that).
The screen (Vaio display premium 1600x900) has good blacks, colour and is sharp, it is better than most notebooks, however that said the vaio Z's panel is better but it is twice as expensive.
The track pad is nicer than most notebooks, it is fluid to use and has a nice feeling (90% like Apple's albeit the gestures). However being plastic it will wear out into a shiny sheen, and I don't think I can rest my thumb on the trackpad. (Damn you synaptics)
I love the speed and stamina switch why can't all notebooks use this instead of bios and software control.
I think the keyboard is a little too soft, it doesn't have a the feeling of feedback, plus the back-lighting look like an afterthought, Apple's keyboards are more crisp although it has less travel.
I absolutely loathe the speakers though, it is quiet and tinny, it is worse than my current HP laptop which is also tinny but at least loud but that was expected because it was cheap. I mean many ultra books like the Asus zenbook and Macbook Air have decently loud and full speakers, however lacks base but that's expected. Sony should have provided better speakers especially at this price range. BTW the vaio Z is worse.
(I love my desktop creatives, however I will try and get headphones for the vaio s)
I Love this laptop though, I can see myself buying it in August, however I would be extremely pleased if Sony had magsafe (it'l never happen).
I decided this over the macbook pro only because Apple didn't provide a GPU option for the 13 inch plus they still didn't give it a better display it is still at 1280x800 rather than 1600x900 (I appreciate the extra real estate) Due to the fact that it might cannibalise into the macbook air's sales.
Overall I think the Sony Vaio S13A is a good purchase.

i REALLY want to get this S13 but after coming from the Z's screen... i just can't. it really bothers me... and i wish it didn't. blah, if the Z's power dock had a better graphics card. id totally get that instead.
Vaio S13A colour choices and first impressions.
