My Vaio SA has a UJ242AS bluray / dvd drive, but it started malfunctioning, so that I cannot burn any type of cd / dvd, getting errors in the first seconds of the burning. Power calibration error I think. Is there anything I can do, or is there a replacement model that would fit into it? thanks

    Hi,
My Bluray+DVD recording unit (CMB-UJ152) failed by month #2 of getting my laptop, and this was after using it 8 times at most.
In my case the failure was related to the drive not spinning, like the motor being dead because the typical spinning noise was not heard at all when inserting a disc, despite Windows device manager reporting its presence, any attempt to explore the drive showed it as being "empty".

Fortunately the warranty came to the rescue about 8 months later (not Sony's delay, I'm abroad and my warranty is effective only in the US); they sent me a new unit and an envelope to send the deffective one back to them, along with instructions to perform the change (as easy as 1-2-3).

That was my solution and so far it's working properly.
