Hey Everyone,
Lurker turned poster needing some help.
I bought a Vaio SA290 a little while ago as a gift and have recently found that the main battery is charging strangely.
It seems to charge at a normal rate until around the 70-80% range, after which it'll take days to gain charge, topping out at 80%.
I've tried enabling/disabling battery care but that doesn't seem to do anything. With battery care on, the status will say "Plugged in, not charging" at 80%, but with it off it'll say "Plugged in, charging".
If anybody out there has any idea what's going on please let me know.
Thanks in advance
-Brian

Is the BIOS up to date? There were some battery related fixes in the past couple of versions, iirc.

If it makes you feel any better, I get the same weird days to finish charging the last 20% behaviour under linux, Ubuntu 11.10 to be exact. I think it's just part of the whole strategy to make your battery last longer, as the faster you charge a li-ion battery to faster it wears out.

jeremyshaw - BIOS is up to date, that was also one of my first thoughts to the problem..
Sxooter - your machine takes days to charge from 80 to 100%? mine seems to take days to charge from 70 to 80% -
@Sxooter: well, this is a Li-poly, in most respects, even more sensitive to being overcharged, and will kill itself if deep discharged (the real deep discharge, since these batteries have IC in them to cutoff at a preset).
