Hi,
I'm still running my SA2C5E (i7-2620M, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD) and it's pretty solid. It's more of a desktop now, but I haven't found anything new worth upgrading to, so wanted to know if 12GB RAM was possible to extend its life a bit further?
It sounds like the S13 will accept an 8GB stick in addition to the 4GB on board, but haven't seen any reports on the SA2. I'm still running the R1031H4 BIOS as Kubuntu has run perfectly for 6 years and I've never had any reason to upgrade.
Any experience or links to other threads that I haven't found is appreciated.
Thanks,
sev8

Assuming it is an Intel based motherboard, head over to Intel and look for the specs of the chipset in place. https://ark.intel.com/
If you don’t know your chipset, you can find it by some system information tool of your choice.Last edited: Dec 17, 2017 -
Thanks for the advice. I've read that the chipset supports up to 32GB, though that info isn't on the Intel site. My understanding from reading some threads was that the BIOS/manufacturer can also limit the amount of RAM supported (not just through the number of slots available).
I think I'll take the plunge and order the RAM

But then I’m sure there shouldn’t be an issue to at least 16 GB in your case, can hardly imagine they would have a bigger limitation through BIOS,MB.
I remember the ideal configuration was to use two sticks of equal size, but I doubt that it would make a big difference. -
So, to follow up on this in case anyone else has the same question later, 12GB of RAM works fine in my SA2. I put in a Crucial 8GB PC12800 stick.
