    Hi all,

I'm having some strange problems with the graphics on my Vaio SB. I have searched around for people having similar problems but can't find anything.

When I have the laptop set to SPEED mode (i.e. using the AMD HD 6470M graphics card) I often get this strange effect where little boxes randomly show all over the screen, and flicker on off in different places when anything happens on-screen (like moving the mouse around). I managed to capture some of them (see the small coloured boxes in the image below).

It's pretty consistent, has always been like this, and happens even when it isn't really warm. All drivers are updated. I even once tried the latest non-Sony ATI drivers but it still happened. I normally have it in STAMINA mode so don't see it that often.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm really hoping it's a software problem so I don't have to deal with sending it off to repair!

    Thanks,
    Dean.

looks like GPU memory artifacts, which points to faulty memory chips. if you've tried different drivers (which you have) with the same result, then contact sony for a warranty replacement of the motherboard (if it's still under warranty, of course).

Thanks for your thoughts. I think you might be right, it's probably time for the Vaio to take a little trip, and likely have a brain transplant! (It is still under warranty btw). Cheers.
