    Vaio SB wifi ad-hoc problem

I use SB18( I7, intel wifi link 1000). I have problem when I connect my laptop to other device using wifi ad-hoc mode, windows will hang and need to be forced shutdown by push power button.

Finally, I found that if wifi-N is enable(in device properties), it will cause system hang when connect to ad-hoc network. By disable N mode, it is work without any problem. ( I also try in clean install windows 7, same result).

So, is there anyone has same problem? Can you try?

Can you tell what you are trying to connect thru ad-hoc? Then someone can reproduce the problem if any.

For example, connect between 2 laptop using wi-fi. you can use "setup a wireless ad hoc" under "setup a connection or network" menu and create it from one pc or another laptop. Then, let vaio connect to that adhoc network.

I believe your wireless adapter is compatible with the intel my wifi. Go to the intel driver download site. You want a manual install of the driver. There are three boxes in the first or left box scroll down and select wireless networking. In the center box select wireless technologies. In the right box select intel my wifi technology. Scroll down and select one of the downloads. After you select one of the downloads you will have a choice to select the driver only or the full installer. You need the full installer. Download this to your computer. When you run the program it may or may not ask you to uninstall the previous version of intel wireless software. During the instillation you will be asked weather you want a standard or custom instillation. Choose custom and expand the file tree so my wifi is visable. This program among other things should allow you to setup a secured network between your two computers with a outgoing 56meg signal. I tried it on my 5100 card and it worked.
