I am getting a Vaio SR and I want to upgrade the harddrive to a 500 gb one i have already. Is there a way to transfer the recovery stuff from the harddrive that comes with the vaio to the new one i am swapping in?

Burn the recovery discs when you receive your Vaio SR notebook. Then after you've swapped your HDD, run the recovery discs that you've made & you should be able to get the exact factory pre-installed image onto your new HDD.
Another important advise is to make at least 2 sets of recovery discs. This is to be absolutely safe that in the event that if one set is corrupted, you'll still have another set to use. Good luck. -
seems easy enough
also can you tell me if a 7200 rpm drive lower the battery life over a 5400prm? -
A more important factor is to look up the actual power consumption of the drives at idle, seek, read/write, etc. Then you can compare the two drives based on power usage. Like the thread mentioned above, you are trading off performance for lower power consumption, and if you are doing work that requires performance, I can assume you'll be plugged into AC, so battery life usually isn't important in this case.
