Ive Had a Vaio SR-33K for a while now...I recently had some family visiting me from florida, well to make a long story short....one of the kids tripped or something and my laptop fell with a Lucent wi-fi card inside the PCMCIA Drive...Now when its booting the PC-Card drive doesnt work....I called sony but to fix it they said it can cost me anywhere from $300-700 and thats ridiculous...i can buy a new notebook with that kind of money...So my question is if someone knows a place where i can get it fixed or at least checked out....Any help will be greatly appreciated....[?]

LOL!!! I'm not laughing at you, honestly. I had a similar experience with an older machine I posted about just this morning, so it's kind of ironic.

In my situation, the wife dropped an old Ascentia M with a WiFi card protruding, and.... When I opened her up, I found the drop did not damage the card (which is now in anothe machine) or the pins on the PC-Card bay. What seems to be wrong is that the force of impact did sever a connection at the base. I'm thinking it might be a simple solder job, but I haven't looked at it in depth for some time.

You should tell us what city and state you live. You may be able to find someone here that can help, or point you to someone in your area. You can also google for your city and state, and the term Laptop Repair; I've come across people that way also. Last resort (or first) stop by a mom-and-pop computer shop and ask them.

If you're fairly technical and confident in your abilities, you can attempt to replace the bay yourself. While I don't have the site address that I use handy, you can find suppliers of replacement parts for laptop. The one I use is very courteous, professional, and will work to get just about anything you need. Should you go that route, I'll edit this message later to include the address once I get it.
