So i finally got the docking station for my Sr, have to say its not as good as i had hoped, the unit doesnt seem to click in, and in general its a fairly poor dock compared to the HP ones i have at work. That aside i have an issue.
1. When using the SR in the dock, i have to open the screen before the power button will start the unit? Seems strange, is there a setting for this or is this a poor design?
2. When the laptop is on and docked, my network connections both connect at the same time, eg i have wifi and lan both connected, this seems a bit strange, i would have thought that when im docked the unit wouldnt use wifi, and would use LAN instead. Again is there a setting for this as its not ideal currently.
Aside from that all seems well with the unit, seems stange to me that the dock provides gigabit network and the machine unit provides up to 100.
Any help is appreciated

Regarding your first question, I asked the Sony support about this. Their answer was that this is normal, it's designed so that the laptop can't be accidentally turned on when in a backpack or a bag, so you have to open the lid to be able to turn it on.
For your other question, try to disable the wifi connection by using the software to connect to wifi, maybe there's an option to deactivate the automatic connection. Or you can press the slider to turn it off.

Thanks for the reply, if thats sony's response then its a stupid design, its DOCKED meaning i should be able to use it without the screen,.. useless.. i understand if its not docked, but when its docked its a different story
as for the second option, yes i can disable it, but that is also a pain, because if i undock it then i have to re enable it manually. and you cant turn the slider off as that disabled the bluetooth which means my mouse doesnt work when docked.
Seems to me that sony really hasnt thought about anything and just produced a docking station that is relatively useless.
Thanks for your help though luis.

Why do you need to turn the wifi off?
Why don't you use sleep instead of turning the computer off?
Then you can use the mouse or keyboard to bring the computer out of sleep mode. Alternatively you could use all your strength to open that huge hinged screen, push the button, and then call in some removalists to help you put the screen down carefully again...
If your computer turns off again it's got nothing to do with the dock - it's just exposing your lack of knowlege of the operating system on your laptop.
(Perhaps asking a well thought out question or two might have been more productive than ranting?)
And I don't want to be snarky, but why do you assume everyone in the world wants to use a computer the way YOU want to use it.
What did you really want the docking station for?
If you just wanted a device that turns the power button on, and turn the wifi off, then I'm pretty sure you purchased the wrong item.
Have a productive day. -
Wow.. i thought there was an A55H0le filter as part of the sign up process. clearly you found a way through some how..
Thanks alot for the productive reply, pretty clear you havent used many docking stations.
I'm not even going to argue with you because you're not worth my time.
