    Hi all.

I have a Vaio SR with a 320 GB Samsung HM320 JI hard disk. The laptop is very quiet, but sometimes it makes a kind of cracking noise, maybe once an hour or two. It has made this noise since I bought it some months ago, both in Vista and XP.

Looking for info about this subject, it seems that it may be related to the acoustic management in the hard drive. I've checked several configurations in Windows (quiet mode, performance...) with no significative difference.

I've also tried with a program available at Samsung web site, called ESTool, which lets you change the acoustic mode and other parameters of the hard disk, but it doesn't detect my hard drive. I'm using ESTool v. 2.11a. The technical assistance from Samsung hasn't given a useful solution, either.

I don't have access to BIOS parameters, as it is very limited on the Vaio (just lets you set passwords and starting order to load the operating system).

I suppose the only cause possible of this noise is the hard drive.

    Any help about this?
