Hi, yesterday i placed an order for a vaio sr with the ati dedicated graphics. What finally made up my mind was the HDMI port because in the future I would like to connecto a higher resoultion monitor or lcd tv. I read VGA wont cut it. I already know I will be getting about a full hour less of battery time. My question now is whether there a noticeable heat difference between the two? the ati hd3470 site claims it has a "breakthrough energy efficiency" that keeps the notebook cool. How true is this?
Thanks in advance!

I have the discrete GPU and the laptop is practically ice cool everywhere except a tiny bit warm on the left palmrest. It outputs considerable heat through the vents on the left, but that doesn't harm the laptop itself and unless you put your hand near the vent, it shouldn't affect your daily usage of the laptop.

A deticated GPU will always run hotter than an intergrated.
But, it shouldnt be to warm, except when gaming- which is pretty normal as long as it doesnt go over 90C -
i have ati with undervolting.. my regular operating temp is 36 celsius. when playing games or watch videos, it gets to 45 celsius at most.

shenofjo, what battery issues do you have? are they related anyway to the ati card?
