Hi, I am considering getting the discrete graphics card option because it has an HDMI output. However, will this output serve any purpose if I don't get the Blueray drive? Will I be able to use an LCD TV as a normal PC Monitor via HDMI?
Thanks!

HDMI allows you to output video to anything with an HDMI or DVI input.

I use mine to watch movies on a HDTV. I dont have bluray either but the quality is still great for DVD's.

i've read that LCD Tvs and laptops dont work great together using VGA. Its good for video and pictures but text, icons, etc...look very blurry, specially up close. Is this also true for HDMI?

HDMI, on the other hand, is a pure digital signal capable of broadcasting up to and including HD signals of the current highest resolution without problems. So, no conversion, no resolution limit, and higher bandwidth for more signal information at once to be transmitted and viewed on the TV. So, by using the HDMI and making sure you set the video settings correct from your notebook, you shouldn't have any grainy or blurry images unless you are trying to view it on a huge TV.
