Hi,
I have a Vaio SVSS13A2 Notebook with nVidia GT 640M LE GPU.
I have to take it apart though, as the LCD cable has a loose connection (which is not the problem here) and I thought: why not replace CPU+GPU thermal pads? Temps are getting worse anyways and GPU is throttling in some games.
Problem is, I have to order them first, as the notebook is my daily driver and do not want to take it apart just to see the thickness of the thermal pads...
These are the part numbers, but i cannot find out how thick they are supposed to be - no pictures on the net either...
VGA PAD 12x12mm:
A-1857-843-A
CPU PAD 11x15mm:
A-1857-842-A
Does anybody know which thermal pads best to use? Or some reference thickness? Like 0.5mm / 1mm / 1.5mm?
Thanks in advance![]()
Edit: or would you even recommend copper shims? I am a bit frightened that they will slip out sometime, without thermal adhesive. Did someone actually managed to damage its dies due to case twisting?

I totally forgot to answer to my own thread - in case sb. has the same question:
There are no thermal pads or copper shields in SVS13A2 necessary - when I disassembled the notebook some months ago, there was originally only thermal paste. It is originally applied with the help of being a thermal "sticker" (it is just some really thin 'pad' - it is not silicone-like as pads, but more like real thermal paste). I did not dare to termal-glue a thin shim on the cooler, as being afraid there will be too much pressure on the die then.
The fan shut the heck up, temps are alright - a little bit jumpy though (most likely as I am terrible in applying paste).
I am content for now =)
PS: sorry for abusing this thread-corpse
