Hello,
I have done a little unwated damage to my notebook. (Sony Vaio SZ71 W Premium). I left it for2-3 hourse near a heating source and the plastic on the lcd panel (the back side) melted, i noticed that only 7-10 days later i thought what could may cause this damage and i remembered what i done, fortunately i got the premium model, with the carboon fiber otherwise the entire lcd could be broken...
Here are some pictures...

That could be a good place to start. -
Contact Sony, they are very helpful. They just sent me a brand new palm rest for my Vaio at an excellent price including postage. That was Sony Europe, i`m not sure where you are from but i`m sure Sony US would be just as helpful.

i am in italy, i will contact them tommorrow, i started in teh forum because i tought that maybe i could just go to an website and get that piece (if someone would leave a link here).
Thanks -
Looking at my SZ71WN/C i think you well may have to replace the complete back cover.
I came across this part for an earlier model as well it is not the right part for your laptop but looking at that as well tends to make me think as well that you will need to replace the whole back cover. I could be wrong though.

If so this is the part that you need to replace the back cover A1364045A.
There are some companies that will ship internationally to Italy.
Sony will probably want about 250 euros to deal with this. You can buy that part for about $185. I presume that your laptop is still in warranty if so i can understand if you would prefer to deal with this yourself. -
Thanks rachuk, i think this is the one i need.
Vaio SZ > lcd plastic melted > need a new piece...
