Has anyone found a way to change from stamina to speed mode without rebooting?
-
I dont believe this is possible.
-
it's not possible
-
Don't give up hope hposen (^_^), anything is possible.
-
It would have to stop power on one video card and instanty switch to GeForce and give the GeForce a split-second to get all of the Intel's card's video data on it - otherwise the computer would hang.
But I agree anything is possible. -
Yes I think having to reboot everytime you want to switch between the modes is lame.
Can someone tell me what other than the graphics card changes when you put it in stamina mode?
Thanks. -
nothing. you just get better battery life in stamina
-
Thanks, I was thinking maybe 1 of the duo core processors shut down, but I guess not.

Ok, heres something strange. When I installed my SZ with Core 5 my nvidia card wasn;t loaded because I had no drivers. When it was in Speed mode, the machine used the Intel graphics card. The Intel card has to be accessible while in Speed mode because its integrated into the motherboard, hence Fedora used it. Whether this is possible the other way round is a different matter.

Have you try changing your power plan from Vaio Maximum Battery and High Performance.
I dont know if all of you have this problem.
When i'm in Stamina mode, and the power plan is set High Performance, I can play games smoothly, but if i'm in speed mode and put the power plan in Vaio Maximum Battery, playing games is not very smooth.
So my question is: Does the switch mode automatically change your power plan setting, or do you change your power plan by yourself?
Thanks for your help -
Unless you play games on your SZ, you might as well leave it in the stamina mode all the time.
Besides better batter life, the stamina mode makes it easier to use the computer with an external monitor due the way the Intel video driver application is set up. It is not terrible with the Nvidia card, just easier with Intel. -

anything is possible... hmmm... quite true. but the current adapter models are totally powered-off and not in standby that is why sz would restart the computer eventually. if somehow both the video adapters are "plug-and-play" then, that would be the key there... just a thought.

The total of RAM for Graphic is 335MB but the Nvidia graphic has only 64MB, the rest is for the Intel 950, so maybe you can play games better in Stamina mode?

can some1 answer my question about the problem with the power plan that I post before...
1 more question is: When I swith from stamina mode to speed mode , and vice versa, do you receive some warning asking you restart you laptop or you just do it by yourself??? -
..or at least I think I do! I believe anything my computer tells me. -
How do you know it's just running on 1CPU?
I'm on:
Stamina
Power Saver
On Battery
On Task Manager, it still displays two independent CPUs working away. All I know is that the frequency is dropped to 1Ghz according to CPU-Z under these settings and when I change Vista to High Performance - it goes to full speed when needed. -
Would you get noticably better battery life on 1 CPU in 'stamina' mode?
My SZ460 is plugged in when I'm at home and could use 2 processors for multitasking, media etc. 2 processors on AC is fine with me.
But when I travel on lengthy flights, I want the maximum amount of battery life possible so as to watch DVD movies in the air.
Can someone tell me how to configure my SZ so that when on battery I am only using 1 processor (again, only if that's really going to add noticible battery life improvement).
Thanks -
Open the boot.ini, copy the already used Windows-Line in it, and add "/one CPU 1".
Then it should look like this.
-
Thanks, but is there a way to do this without a reboot? In Power Options, is there a way to specify "use 1 processor while on battery, use 2 processors while on AC" or does that require a reboot?

TinyRK - that line, is it just for XP? Since I'm on Vista.
-
You can assign a core to each process/ programm via the taskmanager.
This must be working too with an extra command line in the programm. -
I am on Vista too, so I can't help you guys that well.
But check Vistaboot Pro 3.2, which let you change the boot of Vista.
Vista doesn't have a boot.ini by the way. My fault -
Change the boot of Vista?? lol
To some shoes??
Sorry. What does that app change?
