Hey everyone, I've had the Sony S5XP for a year now and the one thing that has always bothered me has been the fan noise. Well, my dad now wants to take my S series and has offered me a new laptop.

I was thinking about the SZ but was wondering if it would have the same problems. I was also considering a TX but I've got a horrible feeling that it might be getting updated soon just as the S did as soon as I got!

Was hoping for some input on both the SZ and TX fan noise. Thanks.

It's a crap shoot. I bought and returned 2 SZ330's, one was louder than the other. I bought and kept an SZ360, it's very quiet.

As someone who is very bothered by noisy laptops, I can say that I'm very happy with the noise level of my SZ360. The only time I notice excessive fan noise is when gaming on speed mode ---- stamina mode stays pretty quiet, and any fan noise has never bothered me.

I think the SZ is loud. My girlfriend makes me put it in standby at night because the fan noise keeps her up.

I also think the SZ fan can get pretty loud. It's clearly louder than any other laptop i've had, and it seems to run more often. If noise is a big issue, it may be a problem for you. Otherwise, I've just gotten used to it. You can set the settings so that while on batt power the fan and cpu speed is set to low, then I'd say its quiet enough for a meeting/library.

The fan noise of my SZ is very much dependent on how I use it. It's nothing compared to, say, my desktop.. but your mileage may very, depending on taste. I returned two Sony computers due to electronic LCD buzzing noises before I was happy with the SZ360's noise level.

Compared to my FZ, my SZ is considerably louder when in Speed mode, which I've kept it in since I've mainly been using it while on AC power. I'll have to see on Stamina mode but the fan is unusually loud at times...but the rest of the laptop is just so good...

Hm, my SZ320 was not loud at all. I just bought a SZ650 and it isn't loud either.

BTW the TX has already been updated to the TZ.

My sz61xn/c isnt loud at all when running stamina and light work.(in fact, can barely hear it at all) Havent really concentrated when I've had it on stamina so cant say anything about that.
