I’ve been looking to buy the SZ640 or 650 model.

I'm trying to figure out which SZ6xx models come with a black palm rest.

I know the SZ series comes in magnesium alloy or carbon fiber casing. My understanding was the magnesium model has a silver palm rest while the carbon fiber has a black palm rest. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I get confused when looking at different colors/models on pricegrabber. The palm rest on different SZ640 models (sz640N01, sz640n02, sz640n04, etc) display both black and silver palm rest (even for the same exact model, different stores). I thought the black/carbon version was only available on premiem models such as the sz650 or sz680. I’m speaking specifically about the color of the palm rest.

Can anyone clarify which SZ6XX models come with the black palm rest?

    Thanks much!

cool, thanks for that important piece of information.

Im still trying to decide which casing i prefer (carbon or mag).

I like the look of the carbons all black combo, but i am afraid the carbon will feel too much like plastic. I like the brushed aluminium look/feel of the non-premium SZ.

Is the premium SZ palm rest carbon or a darken metal? Is the premium-SZ case housing entirely made of carbon, while the non-premium is entirely metal?

Whats is your opinion on the carbon casing? Does it feel like cheap plastic?

I do like th fact that the premium is offered with a "razor thin" LED panel. Maybe its worth going the carbon route.

    I appreciate your comments

So, does 640 and other models with white palm rest have LED backlit display or just regular one.

non premium = 600-640 has aluminum palmrest and regular screen

premium = 650-680 has brownish aluminum palmrest and led screen with thinner lid

premium+ = 690 is same as premium but the lid has texture

if i had another chance i'd get the premium series.... especially since i paid 2k and now the premium models are 2k. the premium models are, among other things, 1/2 a pound lighter, brighter screen and thinner lid due to the lcd, better battery life due to the lcd, and the carbon adds a nice feeling.

but i you can't afford it get the basic model. it's not that sexy but it does the job
