Hello everybody,
I have a problem with screen on my Vaio SZ240P. Last week after I recieved it I noticed immedeately difference in color vibrance and saturation against SZ premium model which friend in our office owns. I tried to play with Nvidia graphics property tool to adjust colors, but no luck. Colors are simply not correct and look dull and washed out. I decide I should contact Sony and discuss this issue with them. They agreed to ship another one. Today I recieved the new one, which also has the sam screen quality. After doing some recearch today I found out that there indeed is a screen quality between two premium and non-premium, something I was not aware at the time of purchase as all of the reviews on the web were of premium models. The main reason I got it was for screen quality and lightness. As it turns out, unless you get a premium models, screen quality is simply unaceptable when it comes to work with photography and 3D applications. This is major disapointment give its price and brandname. If I knew this I would have not bought it. I'm suprised Sony has done something like this.
Since I got computer through the school I am not able to return it. Actually I am, but the process is going to take at least 4 months, because our purchasing depratment is extremely slow (it took them 2 months to place an order), so returning it is simply not possible.
Now, what I would like to know, and would appreciate very much if anyone can offer word of advice, is if it is possible to somehow correct this problem? Upgrading video driver, installing software that takes caer of it or allows screen color calibration, etc. Anything would help.
Thank you,
goran

Apart from adjusting your monitor settings, there is not much you can do about the screen quality. The SZ screens are different due to LED backlighting. Which means that the screen differences are based on hardware and not based on software tweaks.
Sorry I don't have better news for you, but for photography work, you might consider using an external monitor.
Someone else on this forum might have better options for you, though. -
The LED screen on my VAIO SZ483 has colored bands (green/violet about 2 inch thick throughout the screen but barely noticeable, it is very light and visible on on white background) Do you think I should ask Sony to replace it under warranty?

I got mine relaced 3 days back!
Sony replaced it right away, and this happened only after a few months of owning this laptop which scared me in the future when my warranty is overwhat kind of cheap hardware is SONY using.
take a look wat i had on my screen on a white background!!!!!
Click on each image to see it clearly.

I guess it irrelevant, but just to add the VAIO screens.
My old PCG-K33 had alot of light leakage from the right/left/top/and bottom of the screen. Also, there was a small are on the left side the easily warped whenever you moved the computer. -
WOW !! This thread was initially started in 2006 !! lol
But anyways, my SZ650 also have 2-3 brown bands on the screen but they are hardly visible when brightness is at max (most noticeable when brightness is at 3 bars). This is a problem MANY sony SZ owners are reporting, so hopefully sony will fix this problem in the SZ7 series. -
Ok had 1 screen worse than this and got that one replaced. My current screen looks alot like the one(s) above. Shipped the thing for repair and it came back as "we can't see the problem" -> boom -> no problem and I currently possess a faulty screen sz just hoping it will magically say bzaat and fall apart under warranty so I can get a new one. (they offered some weirdo 1year old camera and photo printer as compensation and I finally got a w960i as compensation, but I still hate having a faulty screen)

oh ok! /never knew that. good deal then

Well that's the math I did. Screen around 5-600€ and the phone being 650€ here I thought why not get the phone. And there is still the chance something else will break down and I'll get a new laptop anyways. I think Sony though "this guy wont suffice for anything else than a perfect screen and will keep sending it back whilst a "normal" user wouldn't see the screen as a problem". Also I was going to swap the whole comp for the 7 series so thats prolly also a reason.

Its a lot better now !

Hi all,
I am very disappointed too. I have an SZ483, paid 3500 A$ for it. so much for that amount of money! the screen had yellowish stripes, so I had to get it replaced. Now the problem is starting again ater a year!
Plus I find out that the vista version they install in this model is faulty, so I have to get a clean install.... really not happy. I could have got a better product for half the price.
Is there any formal complaints we can place to sony, anyone knows?

I have some issues with my screen too. it looks dark yellowish, could be due to its usage over the year though. its dissapointing to see laptops 1/3 the price having better displays.
veleno88, do you recall how much it cost to change the screen?
